News of the day: Khumariyaan is a folk instrumentalist band based in Peshawar and Islamabad, who rely on their fierce instrumentals to make a strong impact. The vibe of the band is very trance-like, with a contemporary twist on folk music and they have been on our radar ever since they started releasing music.

Having previously performed in international tours, Khumariyaan is now set to play at the Alchemy Festival in London, on 20th May, this being their third international tour. Alchemy is one of the largest festivals inspired by South Asian culture outside of the subcontinent, and brings together contemporary dance, performance, music and literature performed by international and British artists.

The performance is being presented by ‘Funoon London’ who are a website guide and events platform. Funoon brings together the best of South Asian arts and culture in London and their first event was an intimate evening with Coke Studio stars Ali Hamza, Bilal Khan, Natasha Khan. This is definitely something we wish we could attend!

Sparlay Rawail, of Khumariyaan, said “We have always thought of ourselves as a world music band, and are extremely proud and happy to be taking our music internationally again. We want all our Pashtun/Pakistani fans to attend the gig and are also looking forward to the response from British audiences.”
