The much awaited Stella Jean Spring/Summer ’20 show at the Milan Fashion Week was in full swing last night at the Duomo di Milano, and the incorporation of Pakistan’s craft and talent in the collection stood out in the best way possible.

Stella Jean had visited Pakistan earlier this year in an effort to push for Strategic Development Goals (SDG), and empower rural women through fashion. Impressed by the design elements and the embroidery style that is native to the women of the mountainous regions of Chitral, Kalash and Hunza, Stella Jean decided to incorporate their craft in her Spring/Summer 2020 collection.

Titled Laboratory of Nations, the collection aims to create a bridge between Italy and nine mission destinations, one of which is Pakistan. Revealing hints about the collection, Stella Jean took to Instagram to share three different art forms that inspired her to incorporate Pakistan in her prestigious show.

The collection also includes the truck art design which has been made by artists in Lahore under the artistic supervision of Professor Mazhar Rizvi, Head of Department of the National College of Arts-Lahore.

What’s just as exciting is that two of our local super models, Mushk Kaleem and Alicia Khan, landed the coveted opportunity to walk the Milan runway for Stella Jean, clad in outfits that are a stunning collaboration of Pakistan and Italy. Standing in front of the Duomo Di Milano, the gorgeous duo posted an update amidst their big break, chanting Pakistan Zindabad, and thanking people at home for supporting them and making it possible.

The models were seen on the runway, draped in garments that were assembled by Italian artisan seamstresses after the floral motifs were hand embroidered in chain stitch by the women in Chitral, Kalash and Hunza.

Repping Chitral in Milan, Alicia sashayed down the runway in a luxe jersey that read CHITRAL 20 in bold across the front.
