From runway to red carpet! We just stepped out of the PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week and are headed straight into the Lux Style Awards, taking place in Karachi tomorrow. That’s some serious style intervention in our otherwise utilitarian lives.

The Lux Style Awards have always been a mix of fashion and entertainment, with separate awards in their respective categories. The LSAs have also featured segments akin to Fashion Rocks, where top designers have sent out collections while rock stars have serenaded them on stage. Does anyone else remember Ali Azmat performing as Nomi Ansari rolled out a glamorous red and gold collection? This year the LSAs have once again added a grand fashion segment to their show, where a spate of top-notch designers will be presenting capsules of their signature styles. The designer line up includes: Ali Xeeshan, Deepak Perwani, Elan, Fahad Hussayn, Faraz Manan, Kamiar Rokni, Karma, Nomi Ansari, Sana Safinaz, Umar Sayeed, Sania Maskatiya and Zara Shahjahan.

Are we headed into fashion overdrive or will this fashion segment add to an otherwise, already glamorous evening? Is this fashion exhaustion or is it a good way to give our designers a way to share stage with film and TV stars. We asked the designers about the influx of fashion and what we should be expecting to see from them.

Fahad Hussayn

Fahad Hussayn will be presenting three pieces from his Dara Shikoh collection, which he showcased at BCW earlier this month. “A little break would be good, but I like working,” he mused. “I am glad the LSAs are focusing on fashion too; entertainment is cool but I’m a designer, so there’s something for everyone there.”

Ali Xeeshan

Being the great showman that he is, Ali always puts forth a grand presentation, so we were delighted to find out that he has styled a dance number for the show, which includes costumes for the back up dancers and the main performer. We can bet that this will be a performance worthy to watch! Ali also hinted that he was part of the big reveal of the multiple Lux girls. Whether he’s styling one of the girls or the whole segment is something we’ll have to wait till tomorrow to find out. But this will be a star-studded performance.

Ali will also be showing three pieces from Victory, his recent and very well received spring/summer collection shown at PSFW17. He did however, agree that so many fashion related events at the same time are exhausting for the audience, designers and especially models. “Councils should coordinate and plan these out in advance,” Ali suggested, and we can’t help but agree.

Zara Shahjahan

Zara on the other hand, had an interesting opinion on the whole scenario, appreciating the range of platforms the month has provided. “There is so much competition now, everyone has to be out there. Plus the overload is majorly because of lawn I feel, this is going to be ‘real’ fashion,” she told us.

The designer will be showing three designs from her latest spring/summer Luxury Pret collection, one of which will be worn by acclaimed actress Armeena Khan.

Nomi Ansari

“I’m just showing two designs, what’s there to talk about yaar?” the witty designer told us. “You’ll just have to see what they are tomorrow,” he added with a chuckle. Nomi stated that all these platforms provide a variety of fashion, and “Lux is fashion” so the fashion presentation is apt.

Nomi will once again be styling Maya Ali for her performance as well as the red carpet tomorrow.

Maheen Kardar

Maheen Kardar of Karma, who is also part of the freshly established ‘Fashion Squad,’ which will be policing looks on the red carpet tomorrow, will be showing three brand new couture garments.

“It’s a great platform, fashion, music, film all come together. I can’t think of a good reason why it’s not a good idea to have it all together or at the same time.” She told us.
