The much-awaited trailer for Nandita Das’ Manto is finally out – and it surely is memorable.

Featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the eponymous Sadat Hasan Manto, the Indian version of the biopic focuses on the controversial writer’s journey from Bombay to Lahore, placed on a milieu of all the court cases he had to face.

In the trailer, we find Manto – who already seems distraught with life – question why his stories are criticised while all it does is show the facets of reality. Amongst all of it, he also looks at his beloved Bombay parting away, as the nation of Pakistan arises and the prospect of moving to Lahore becomes a reality.

How does all of this affect the critically-acclaimed writer? With an addiction to alcohol and crippling depression, of course.

The film stars Rasika Dugal, Divya Dutta, Rishi Kapoor and Tahir Raj Bhasin in pivotal characters, apart from Nawazuddin Siddiqui and is all set to release on 21st September.
