Teefa in Trouble premieres in Karachi tonight and releases across the world – in a record 25 countries – tomorrow. The film, amongst other things, marks the cinema debut of Maya Ali, who we’ve seen and loved in drama serials. But the Maya we’ve always seen has been a shy and demure, usually oppressed, heroine caught in a state of disarray. She’s a completely different person as Anya, spoilt daughter of a Polish gangster. As she’s worked on her image to reinforce that.

Maya is wearing a statement tee by Klotho, skirt by Amercian brand by Milly and heels from Roger Vivier. She looks great.

“Yes it is deliberate,” Maya smiled when we chatted casually about how she has gone completely western in her promotional looks. The only ethnic ensemble we’ve seen her in recently was the traditional clothes she wore on Eid or here and there on morning shows.  Not many people carry both eastern and western wear with equal ease but Maya has carried it with aplomb.

“Ania Fawad is brilliant,” Maya generously gave her stylist credit for her new look. “We’ve been working together for six months now and she understands what I want and how I want to look.”

We also feel that Maya has worked her style extremely well and she looks like a million dollars. Let’s hope the movie does equally well!
