I’m very fond of Meherbano Sethi, who has been successfully managing the Luscious brand of makeup for several years now. And I feel that in lieu of the fashion week mania that we are experiencing in Pakistan, to have a limited edition of nail colours for summer is just wow! It’s a great idea, one that many major cosmetic (especially nail) companies all over the world – OPI, Sally Hansen, MAC etc – have practised. Nail colour collections have been customised around movies, celebrities and of course fashion designers. So it’s very hip of Meherbano to take up the idea in Pakistan. And her selection of designers as super as the shade card that she’s chosen. Bright, vivid and joyous for summer!

Colours are now a complicated message of designer loyalty, thanks to Luscious. So which shade would you like to paint the town with?

So, I decided to bring some satire to this colourful collection, strictly in NFP’s honour. (I wouldn’t dream of it otherwise). So, I called a friend on my Kamini Committe (a group of likeminded satirists, aka bitches) and asked him what was the first colour that came to mind when he heard XYZ designer’s name. I’ll keep my friend’s identity anonymous because I’ve already been threatened with a legal notice this month and I don’t want to ruffle anymore feathers. But please, don’t shoot the messenger! I’m just relaying an opinion. Feel free to disagree and drop in yours too 🙂

HSY: Fuchsia, because he’s louder than life too.

Ammar Belal: Nude, because he looks better nude.

Elan: Neutral, because the label doesn’t really stand out either.

Fahad Hussayn: Citrus Green, because the man is an edgy individual.

Karma: Red, for a very shareef bridal.

Muse: Grey, because they really don’t make an impact

Nickie & Nina: Bubble gum pink, which is borderline tacky

Nomi Ansari: You can’t restrict Nomi to one colour. I’d give a different colour for each nail

Sana Safinaz: Elegant silver, for contemporary luxury

Sania Maskatiya: Purple, which is acceptable but can also be edgy

Sublime: French manicure, for sophistication

Kamiar Rokni: Florescent Orange, as he always stands out

Umar Sayeed: Dull gold, for classic

Zara Shahjehan: Black, because her clothes are morbid!

As you can see, my friend and Meherbano don’t exactly think alike. I don’t know how the actual shades were chosen (I will call her in the morning and find out) but I do know that this Luscious collection will get people talking. I, for one, want that lavender/grey called Elan. I also want Nomi Ansari, though it reminds me of OPI’s Cajun Shrimp. Now, I wonder why there is no white in this collection. Was no designer pure enough?
