It was earlier announced that female celebrities will be wearing black gowns at the upcoming Golden Globe awards to protest gender inequality and sexual misconduct. Recent reports reveal that the men too will be wearing black in solidarity with women. However, critics are puzzled about how their attire will differ from what they’ve always worn.

Men wearing black suits or tuxedos at award shows is quite the given and doesn’t seem like the same radical statement as women wearing black gowns, given the extensive style options women can choose from.

Harvey Weinstein accuser Roe McGowan wrote, “Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster, are wearing black @GoldenGlobes in a silent protest. YOUR SILENCE is THE problem. You’ll accept a fake award breathlessly and affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy. Maybe you should all wear Marchesa,” in a now-deleted tweet.

People are also suggesting that black is the least obvious statement, for men and women, and other forms of protest like not attending the ceremony at all or choosing not to work with those accused of sexual misconduct would be a more impactful move.

What do you think about the move?
