Fashion models foraying into acting through television dramas and films is not a new trend anymore. We have previously seen Amna Ilyas making her mark as an actress in both the mediums. The face of many fashion campaigns, Zara Abid is yet another new entrant in the film fraternity as she has signed a feature film – Chaudhry – which is expected to be a story about slain police officer, Chaudhry Aslam Khan.

Speaking to Something Haute about her acting debut, the model who has carved a niche for herself in the fashion industry, was hesitant to spill the beans.

“Well I am neither allowed to say much about the character, nor the film. But yes, it’s not going to be the basic stereotypical role every debutante plays in a movie. My character is not just a pretty face; I will be showcasing my acting skills, much more than just my looks,” she said.

The model-turned-actor added that she always wanted to act and it was time for her to explore newer territories.

“I have always been fond of dancing, acting and then modeling. Alhamulillah you know all about my modeling career, so now I thought I should give acting a try. I found myself lucky enough to get the right call at the right time,” she said.

Zara revealed that she got a call from an actress friend Kanwal Nazar for the film. “During narration, I found the character so close to me that I had no option but to say yes.” However, the actress carefully dodged any questions regarding the gravity of the subject i.e. the assassination of late Chaudhry Aslam.

When asked why she opted for such a serious film as her big screen debut, Zara’s reply was short and vague. “Chaudhry, the name of the film says it all,” she said adding that she has high hopes for the film. “Let’s see how people accept me as an actress now. The script is great and I’m sure our team will do justice to each character being portrayed in the film, fingers crossed.”

Directed by Azeem Sajjad and written by Zeeshan Junaid, the entire cast of the film is not finalized yet.
