I know I’ve not posted for over ten days but it’s been crazy busy!

This has been a busy, busy week. If weeks were measured in terms of burgers then I’d say this week was a whopper! And if you measure it in lawn I’d say it was summer all over again. Except lawn has arrived before summer this year! The invitation cards started dropping in several weeks ago but there’s been way too much happening to start reporting on lawn too.

You know there can never be a dull moment when Meera’s around.

This week alone? Well, I was wrapping up a really interesting story for Dawn when  Meera arrived after spending time in USA and Bangladesh. Major diversion, because when Meera talks it’s hard to ignore her. Monday and Tuesday were devoted to Meera entirely. Throwing scandals left, right and center she pitched quite a scoop which you’ll hopefully be reading in Dawn Images this Sunday. What you won’t read in the story is that IF she agrees to get engaged this month she’ll be wearing Nilofer Shahid!

This took my mind off some of the depression I was nursing since Saturday and the mega-disappointing stunt pulled by Hum TV regarding Humsafar. While initially I was informed that an old episode was repeated in respect of 12th Rabiul Awal, I later read on an official page that the last episodes of Humsafar were being re-shot on popular demand. Mahira has been avoiding my calls so I have no way to confirm this. Though we do chat after every episode I don’t think she’s ready to spill the beans on this mystery!

The lawn invites continued and though I really wanted to witness the success of Nadia Hussain’s exhibition, I was caught between deadlines and could not.

Sharmeen wore Sania Maskatiya to the 84th annual nominees luncheon

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, of course, was the biggest newsmaker of the week. With her Oscar nomination for Saving face she has made Pakistan proud but as a fashion journalist I was also proud for the fact that she chose to wear Pakistani designers all the way through. She wore a very sophisticated Sania Maskatiya silk tunic and trousers to a nominee’s luncheon and Lotus kindly informed that she would be wearing a customized Bunto Kazmi outfit with Kiran Fine Jewellery to the Oscars. Moreover, Sharmeen will be wearing a Sana Safinaz outfit with specially designed diamond jewellery by Sherezad Rahimtoola to the party after the Oscars ceremony. I just can’t wait for these photographs to come in and I hope she wins to make this event ever more memorable.

I think all Sharmeen’s choices are spectacular (given the pressure she had to take from designers all over the country).  And I do have an idea of what these creative people are putting together for her but I’ll leave it as a surprise.

Another Oscar update that just came in is that Amir Adnan has been requested to design a sherwani for Dr Muhammad Jawad who is the 53-year old Pak/British doctor to have worked in the film. Another feather in the designer’s cap: he has already dressed so many statesmen around the world, the latest being green-eyed politician Shashi Thuroor from India.

Moving on, news came in that our very own Lux Style Awards would be taking place by the end of May this year, which means jury meetings and voting will be starting very soon. And before these style awards, Engro will be hosting their annual Excellence Awards this weekend, Saturday to be exact.

MeherJaan has been unofficially banned in Bangladesh but will be showing at the KLF

This weekend is going to be a crazy one, starting tomorrow with the British Council Karachi Literary Festival inauguration dinner. You may be aware that Shobha De, Vikram Seth and William Dalrymple will be in town if they haven’t already arrived (which Shobha De has and she’s been tweeting her desire to travel Karachi in a rickshaw). Movie magic will work its way through this weekend as not only will MeherJaan featuring the talented Omar Rahim be showing at the festival (Saturday at 2 pm) but Karan Johar’s Ek Mein Aur Ekk Tu will be releasing in cinemas tomorrow and I have secured tickets for Sunday. Yeah!!! Too bad I couldn’t go to the Star Wars premiere tonight (Thursday at Atrium) but you’ve gotta know when and where to draw the line. There’s no room for intergalactic battles this weekend 🙂
