Pakistanis are already excited for Marvel Cinematic Universe’ upcoming series Ms. Marvel and how! Above everything else, it introduces the first Pakistani-American teen superhero Kamala Khan. Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is one of the four directors behind the project and the cast includes several notable names from our country. However, the list doesn’t end here. Renowned Pakistani designer and illustrator, Shehzil Malik, has also contributed to the film’s poster.

The official Ms. Marvel poster was unveiled one day ago on its official social media portals and it has already received over 420k likes.

Shehzil also took to social media and shared how Marvel contacted her and asked to use some of her artworks to represent Kamala Khan’s heritage as a Muslim/Pakistani-American superhero.

“The MS. Marvel official poster is here! Marvel asked to use some of my artworks in the show to represent Kamala Khan’s heritage as a Muslim/Pakistani-American superhero, and it’s so exciting to see it come together!” she wrote on her post.

She thanked Sharmeen Obaid and Marvel for the opportunity.

“Thank you to Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy for thinking of me, and the Marvel team for including my art in the show. The poster is designed by Marvel; original artworks that they’ve collaged in the background are by me,” she explained.

While the poster shows Kamala in all her Ms. Marvel glory, the costume and the power bracelet, along with other characters from the series, Shehzil’s artwork is in the the background. It includes faces of different empowered women, fire, eyeballs, a pack of juice and a lot more. All her creative designs represent her artistic vision and are references to varied subjects that are part and parcel of desi conversations.

Shehzil also promises that viewers will get to see more of her artwork in the series. “There’s more art and amazing illustrations in the show coming up! Keep your eyes out for it!” she wrote in her recent Instagram Story.

Ms. Marvel is a series about a super-powered teenage girl who is brown and Muslim and quite elastic. One day, this aspiring artist and avid gamer who believes that “it’s not really the brown girls from Jersey City who save the world” gets superpowers like the heroes she loves. Ms. Marvel appears to serve as the comic character’s origin story.

Iman Vellani plays Kamala Khan. The cast includes Zenobia Shroff and Mohan Kapur as Kamala’s parents Muneeba and Yusuf Khan, as well as Aramis Knight, Rish Shah, Saagar Shaikh, and Matt Lintz amongst others.

It was heartening to see Nimra Bucha deliver a dialogue in the trailer. Fawad Khan has confirmed his presence in the series and we can’t wait to see him. There is also speculation that veteran actor Samina Ahmed is also a part of it.

The series will have six episodes. Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and Meera Menon are the four directors behind the project. It is written by comedian and screenwriter Bisha K. Ali.

Ms. Marvel will start streaming on Disney Plus from 8th June, 2022.

Something Haute has contacted Shehzil Malik for a comment and is awaiting response.
