Following the success of one of Sarmad Sultan Khoosat’s co-production — Joyland — which has received a standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival, the filmmaker is all geared up to release his next feature in local cinemas, titled Kamli.
Featuring ace performers like Saba Qamar, Sania Saeed, Nimra Bucha and introducing Hamza Khawaja, the film is slated to release on 3rd June, 2022. The official soundtrack of the film includes 6 melodious tracks by the finest singers/musicians of our country. We’ve already reviewed three of them and here’s what you should know about the rest.
Paani by Zenab Fatimah ft. Nimra Gilani
The dramatic track Paani by Zenab Fatimah ft. Nimra Gilani seems to express the tension surrounding the lives of the characters in Kamli. The gentleness, unpredictability and resourcefulness of water is perhaps used as a metaphor in lyrics by Shakeel Sohail. It is the very song for which Saba learnt to swim and the very first pictures of Kamli that were released on social media were also from the shoot of this video.
The scenic views captured in the song, especially the underwater shoot is something to look forward to. It is also equally important to mention that Saba and Hamza’s chemistry, sans any dialogues in the trailer or videos, is electric.

Naina by Sohail Shahzad & Saad Sultan
Naina is like a lover’s plea to stay close to a loved one. Sohail Shahzad and Saad Sultan have made this tune so hauntingly beautiful. Punjabi lyrics loaded with admiration and longing for a significant other are the essence of this track that talks about cherishing every moment of life together.
The video of Naina is dark and sensual; with Hina (Saba) and Amaltas (Hamza) sharing an intimate moment, sitting by the fire on the mountainside.

Agg by Amna Rahi, Farah Naz, Shamim Akhtar ft. Zeb Bangash
And finally, after five soulful and heartwarming numbers, Agg is unique shadi anthem in Punjabi. Sung by Amna Rahi, Farah Naz, Shamim Akhtar and featuring Zeb Bangash, the lyrics are written by Anjum Qureshi. Zulfiqar Ali has composed the song.
The video features Hina singing and dancing at someone’s mehndi, while Zeenat (Nimra) is filming videos. On the contrary, we see Sakina (Sania) is lost and locked in thoughts. The video of Naina seems to be in continuation of this song as Saba leaves the house in the same dress in which she appears in Naina.

Saba Qamar plays Hina, an entangled dreamer, yearning to break free, while Hamza Khawaja as Amaltas is a compassionate yet mysterious wanderer. Nimra Bucha plays Zeenat, the artist who wanted to paint a perfect world. Sania Saeed is Sakina, a keeper of dark secrets, forever searching for light. Will Hina and Amaltas find freedom in this darkness through love or will they be lost in love? We will find on 3rd June in cinemas.
Kamli is based on a short film by Mehar Bano. The screenplay and dialogues of the film are written by Fatimah Sattar with additional story by Sarmad Khoosat. Saad Sultan is the music producer. Gillian Rhodes has done the choreography of the songs. The film also stars Omair Rana, Adeel Afzal and Iman Shahid. It is produced by Kanwal Khoosat and Sarmad Khoosat, and Irfan Khoosat is the executive producer.
