The last two years have not been easy for anyone in the world, primarily due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its affiliate issues. Industries were turned upside down, playing havoc with peoples’ livelihood but there was also emotional and psychological damage as people suffered extreme cases of depression in isolation. Many reports emerged, claiming a rise in cases of domestic violence as well. Nadeem Baig’s upcoming film, Aik To Tum Aurtain narrates the story of a similar household, where a family is stuck at home during the pandemic.

A See Prime Presentation, Aik To Tum Aurtain stars Usman Mukhtar and Madiha Imam as the lead characters. It appears that Usman is playing the role of a man who may have lost his job or is struggling to make ends meet. We’re not sure if Madiha is playing a housewife or she had a job prior to the lockdown. However, it seems that the couple — that used to have a happy family life — is in a very negative space. The husband is frustrated and is taking his anger out on his wife on every small matter.

The trailer of the film opens up with an introduction of its theme: “a tribute to the homemakers in our life without whom we could not survive the disaster of Covid 19.”

Madiha’s character has no dialogues in the trailer while Usman’s character is constantly on edge and is on the verge of a breakdown. The reasons of his agitation are not fully revealed yet, but the title Aik To Tum Aurtain [loosely translated as You Women…] is a familiar phrase used in Pakistan to devalue the efforts of women and underestimate them. It is said when someone wants to shift blame to women or raise fingers on their efficacy.

Perhaps, the film is based on the idea that despite working hard to run a household, the wife is accused of not doing enough. She’s taken for granted. With masterpieces like Jawani Phir Nahi Ani and Punjab Nahi Jaungi amongst other praiseworthy titles, Nadeem Baig’s name is synonymous with good content. Hence, there are high hopes from this project as well.

It is written by Faiza Iftikhar, produced by Momal Productions, and the storyline is by NoorulHuda Shah. Aik To Tum Aurtain will premiere today, 27th May, 2022 at 6pm on See Prime’s YouTube channel.
