Renowned singer Naheed Akhtar – who is perhaps most known for songs like ‘Sweety’ and ‘Bijli Bhari Hai,’ has been awarded Rs10 million in honour of her services by the Punjab Government.

After the death of her husband, an appeal was sent to Punjab CM Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif regarding financial support for the evergreen singer, who has made a huge contribution to the music and film industry of Pakistan.

Naheed Akhtar received the cheque by a representative of the Punjab Government, at Alhamra Arts Council on Tuesday.

 

Naheed received a cheque worth PKR 10 Million in honour of her services by a representative of the Punjab government at Alhamra Arts Council on Tuesday.

“I am very happy today, Shehbaz Sharif has proved that he is contributing a lot for the artist community,” the singer said.

Her career began in 1970 when she sang a duet with Khalid Asghar in ‘Raag Malhar’ at Radio Pakistan Multan. Naheed has recorded songs in a range of styles, including pop, ghazal, classical, Punjabi folk and is considered one of the greatest female singers who ruled Lollywood during the ’70s and ’80s.
