Nomi Ansari, often termed as the ‘King of Colour’,  is known for his quirky out-of-the-box aesthetic when it comes to fashion. His clothes always add a spark to the runway with their vivid colour combinations, be it bridals or luxury wear, and while it’s a pity that we won’t be seeing any of that magic at the multiple fashion weeks happening this year, there are some bigger things in store by the designer.

“There’s no fashion anymore!” Nomi told us in his nonchalant manner. “Which is why I’m planning a very small solo event, it’s going to be very signature ‘us’. I don’t want to be creative, I’m an artist I want to do what I want to do and I don’t want to show leather and feathers in summer…”

Nomi’s solo presentation will come towards the end of this year, likely marking a year since Nomi presented his last collection at PFDC L’Oreal Bridal Week 2017.

“After 18 years of working in the industry I want to create an impact, even if it’s a small presentation,” Nomi mused, speaking of how collections lose impact between a full fashion week lineup.

Hania Aamir in Nomi Ansari for ‘Na Maloom Afraad 2’

If a solo presentation by Nomi is in store for the year, it definitely is some high fashion to look forward to! The acclaimed designer is also playing a significant part in some major film productions that are set to release through 2018. Parvaaz Hai Junoon, 7 Din Mohobatt In and Load Wedding will all see some costumes designed by Nomi.

“Parvaaz Hai Junoon has a very sober tone; the two song sequences are where the colours come in which we have styled Hania Aamir, Shaaz Khan, Kubra Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi for,” he told us. “One is a wedding song and the other is a day wedding event.” One remembers the magical touch that his printed lehnga choli on Hania Aamir added to the wedding song in Na Maloom Afraad 2, and it is evident how far the right costumes can take a production.

“For Load Wedding we’ve done the entire wardrobe for Mehwish Hayat and a song where we’ve styled Fahad Mustafa too. Mehwish is playing an interesting character, and the outfits are quite different from what we usually do.”

While the complete wardrobe for 7 Din Mohabatt In is styled by Sania Maskatiya, Nomi will be bringing in his colourful magic for a song with a dream sequence, starring Mahira Khan and Sheheryar Muanwar.

“Fashion and films collaborate worldwide it’s just that in Pakistan people usually don’t have the budget, or that they don’t want to spend on wardrobe design. Most people want to work for credits, which we don’t do, we charge for what we do,” the designer says it as is.
