Urwa Hocane and Farhan Saeed got married last year and yesterday they celebrated their one-year anniversary with a passionate shoot, that went viral as expected. Incidentally, I interviewed Urwa a week ago and we spoke about her love and life with Farhan, which I felt I just had to share since it was so inspirational.

Here’s what we spoke about…

SH: How, if at all, has your life changed after marriage?

Urwa: I’ve been asked this question a lot lately. There has been no change. Marriage is no disease. Maybe in my life, my drive has increased because Farhan is the type of person who is a dreamer himself and follows his passions so I get that push from him. But I wouldn’t advise anyone to rush into marriage; everybody has their own timeline. I have friends who got married when they were 21/20. I got married at 25, so it’s my own timeline. Wait for the right person.

SH: So many girls have checklists; they want their husbands to be a certain way. So how many of those boxes did Farhan tick for you?

Urwa: I never made those lists and I never thought I would get married. I wasn’t finding anyone, and I didn’t think I could find someone. I thought my expectations may be a lot. I expect a lot of freedom. I wanted to stay the independent person that I am and because of all the stories we hear, obviously you get scared but I think the moment I met Farhan, I thought that this is the guy. I cannot let this one go.

SH: What do you think is most important in a married woman’s life? What is one thing she shouldn’t compromise on?

Urwa: I think the growth you want to see in your life, whatever you want to be, you shouldn’t compromise that. Don’t let go of your dreams, at all. I mean learn how to balance it, but even if you’re not married, you have a certain personal life – you have your parents, you have your siblings, so it’s not like you leave your dreams because you have to spend time with your mum, or your siblings.

SH: What is the best thing about Farhan?

Urwa: The thing I like about him most is that he is a people-builder. He motivates whoever is around him, he’ll push them to do better things in life, he just has that kind of a persona that after you speak to him for a little while, you get motivated to follow your dreams. Also, I haven’t seen a more humble guy.

SH: What is an average family night for you?

Urwa: We both are movie buffs. We watch a lot of series. We just finished Breaking Bad; Farhan wanted me to watch it… I really liked it. We’re open to trying things the other person suggests. Also, we’re both traveling so much, we end up seeing very little of each other. So whenever we meet, we plan our dates, like we choose our movies, and where we’ll go out to eat. We also plan holidays.

SH: If you had a chance, which film would you recreate with Farhan?

Urwa: That’s a tough one. I would recreate Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam with Farhan. I don’t know who the other guy would be but Farhan would be Salman’s character. It’s just a film, guys. I won’t recreate it in real life – the script, the film is what I’m talking about. Also, I chose the film because the character is also a musician and that character reminds me of Farhan somehow. But maybe by the end of the film, we could change it, and get together or something like that.

SH: So, we saw the two of you together in Udaari and Farhan has signed his first film now. Can we hope to see you two in the film together?

Urwa: Yeah, maybe. Let’s see. It’s being decided. We’d love to work together; I think it’d be ideal to have your real life hero in a film. It’s nice.
