Akshay Kumar’s latest film Padman has been on the radar for dealing with the taboo topic of menstrual hygiene. The film has already faced mild criticism in India for this reason, and recent reports say that the film might not be released in Pakistan.

While some Pakistani media outlets have claimed that the Federal Censor Board has denied to issue a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to the film and announced to ban it, cinema owner and film-distributor Nadeem Mandviwalla states otherwise.

“The NOC has not been issued as there is a dispute in the application of the film by two different distributors. Thus, there is no ban on the film from the government,” Mandviwalla told Something Haute.  Meaning that while the NOC has not been granted as yet, the government has not in any way stopped the screening of the film.

Padman is based on the true story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, inventor of low-cost sanitary napkins for women in rural areas. The movie also stars Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor in lead roles.

Stay tuned for updates.
