Despite getting a go-ahead from the Indian Censor Board, the film now called Padmavat, has surely seen better days.

While on Saturday the film that looks into the relationship of a Hindu queen and a Muslim ruler, Alauddin Khilji, was cleared, the hardliner Rajput faction Karni Sena has claimed that they will actively protest and burn cinemas which play the film despite the film going through modifications.

Previously, the party also offered a reward for anyone who beheaded lead actress Deepika Paduoke and director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

“We had given a whole list of objections regarding the movie,” said Ajit Singh, president of Rajput Karni Sena, to Reuters. “The decision has been taken in haste and only a few cuts to the movie will not do justice to the history and legend of the person. We will continue our protests.”

The board asked that the name of the film be changed to Padmavat, to reflect that the source material was an epic poem of the same name and not from actual historical events. However, that has had no effect on the backlash.

Padmavat was slated to be released on December 1st but has been indefinitely postponed. However, sources do suggest that the film will be releasing this month.
