Earlier on February 27, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) shot down two Indian fighter jets that trespassed into Pakistan’s air space, following the Pulwama incident. The wreckage of one of the Indian jets dropped inside Balakot, in Pakistan administered Kashmir, but Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was captured alive.

The PAF named it ‘Operation Swift Retort’ and announced that the day would be commemorated every year. There were reports circulating on social media that Bollywood will soon make a film on the Balakot air strikes. However, Pakistanis are a step ahead and an animated short film by the same title is out on YouTube now.

Conceived and produced by DJ Kamal Mustafa, the animation is not up to the mark. The 23-minute video feature low-quality graphics along with original press statements by DG ISPR, Asif Ghafoor. According to Gulf News, “The animation seeks — in the words of the producers — to ‘expose the Balakot operation, and the successful capture of Abhinandan.'”

It is based on the sequence of events that took place on the night of February 26 and the following day. The animated film is available for streaming on YouTube.

Latest reports are that Vivek Oberoi, who has recently played the titular role in PM Narendra Modi’s biopic, is all set to produce a film on the Balakot air strike. Titled Balakot – The True Story, the film will be based on the Balakot air strikes as well as the release of Indian Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, as reported by NDTV.
