Two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand were a target of mass shootings on Friday afternoon. The mosques were full of worshippers attending prayers and approximately 49 people have been killed and 48 wounded.
New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has described it as a terrorist attack and one of New Zealand’s “darkest days”. A gunman identifying himself as an Australian live-streamed the rampage at Al Noor mosque to Facebook. Facebook officials said that the platform had removed the suspect’s Facebook and Instagram accounts and was working to remove any copies of the footage.
What has happened in Christchurch is an extraordinary act of unprecedented violence. It has no place in New Zealand. Many of those affected will be members of our migrant communities – New Zealand is their home – they are us.

No guys, 49 people didn’t “die” they were slaughtered in cold blood by a terrorist. Terrorism isn’t just reserved for Muslims. You need to fix the wording and don’t downplay this pls. https://t.co/U80jUFG4PE

Sending prayers for the swift recovery of those injured in the brutal terrorist attack in Christchurch, NZ. To the families and lives upturned by this tragedy.
To the lives lost in the name of Islamophobia.

You’ve got to be kidding with this garbage, @DailyMailUK. I don’t expect Western rhetoric about Islam and the constant death and dehumanisation of Muslims to be sophisticated, compassionate or thoughtful but this is disgustingly insensitive and indecent. pic.twitter.com/WEp8XpCGyR
