With 2018 – or at least January, proving to be magnanimous for both Parchi and Chupan Chupai, the films have now officially crossed into the list of the highest grossing Pakistani films. However, will the stroke of luck continue?

According to independent box office websites and sources, both films are now nearing the PKR 10 Crore mark in the local market, whereas on a global scale, Parchi has already managed to gain more than the mentioned amount as it released in North America and the UK.

Although both films have managed to keep a strong foothold in the local market, owing to no major Bollywood films being released, the trend may see some trouble in the near future as Padmaavat hits the cinema screens today. The change is already evident, however, as almost all major cinemas have now allotted majority of its screens to the Deepika Padukone starrer.

The number of shows allotted to ‘Padmaavat’ indicates the upcoming trend at the box office.

Inching towards their demise on the local multiplex front, both Parchi and Chupan Chupai have done exceptionally well and have proven that crime capers still do wonders at the Pakistani box office.

Now one has to see if lightning will strike twice and bring in the same luck – and revenue – for upcoming films, Allahyar & the Legend of Markhor and Maan Jao Na. Time shall tell…
