Pepsi Battle of the Bands is back and what a bang that first episode was! Making the boldest of statements as promised in the teasers, the country’s biggest music show is ready to impress with its fourth edition with a promising first episode.

One would expect that the first episode would have some wins and a lot of failures. Clearly that’s not the case with Pepsi Battle of the Bands, that saw the best of the best clamoring to get that green light from the judge’s lineup which includes music bigwigs, Strings, Meesha Shafi and Fawad Khan.

Saturday night’s episode saw both young and seasoned bands auditioning for that coveted opportunity to make it to the show that has put out bands like EP, Aaroh, Kashmir and Bayaan into the spotlight. From rock, to neo-rock, classic to rap, the episode featured all spheres of technique and sound in the form of talented bands like Neon, Auj, and Skehlaaj etc.

The first band to hit it just right with the judges was Neon, a group of young guys exploring neo-rock. Performing their original song Muscle Car, the band was in their complete element and managed to get that green flag. All four judges were convinced enough of their skills to send them on to the next round. We’re rooting for Neon just as much as the judges and here’s hoping that they continue to wow us!

Auj is one band that made the biggest and boldest of statements on Saturday’s episode, with their eclectic mix of classic and contemporary sounds, aided by 21-year-old Abdul Rehman’s tremendous vocals. A seasoned band with a relatively younger vocalist, Auj was formed in 2009 and has seen some changes over the years, but all for the best, as was evident in their performance. Presenting a unique sound in their original track Lafz, Auj managed to force the judges to their feet in a show of appreciation. Of course they’re through to the next round!

Aarish, a band on a mission, made its comeback to Pepsi Battle of the Bands with an improved line up, determined to get that positive signal. The boys have worked hard to make it to the end this time and made a thumping comeback! Convincing the judges of their talent and hard work, they also made another very important statement; if you don’t succeed the first time, you can always try again!

Talking about making statements, one band that cannot be stopped is Seismic Tremors. Fashioning their music after their name, they are here to make the ground shake and that’s what they delivered. With a contemporary cover of Sanwal Morr Moharran, the band managed to stun the judges and audiences with their ability to fuse classic singing techniques with rap. Kudos to these guys for pulling it off so brilliantly and for showing so much promise.

It’s safe to say that this season is going to be bigger and better, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store this time!
