Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been surrounded by controversy and criticism ever since it was announced that he’s playing Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray in a biopic. However, claiming not to be bogged down by criticism, the actor said he would play the role with as much intensity as he did while acting as Saadat Hasan Manto in his upcoming film.
“My job is to act. So whatever character I get, I will play that with all my acuity,” Nawazuddin said. “I will play the role of Balasaheb Thackeray with the same intensity that I had while playing Manto.”
Essaying the role of Manto in Nandita Das’ upcoming directorial which explores the life of the writer in the pre-Partition days, Nawazuddin spoke about the importance to do any role presented to them without prejudice.
“Your thinking or your political viewpoint can be different but because I am an actor, I will follow the process which I have acquired with my experience in acting, to play any role,” he said.
Nawazuddin’s Manto is set to release this year, whereas Thackeray is slated for 2019.
