Yet another Bollywood film has been mired in controversy. Protesters burned Salman Khan effigies and Tiger Zinda Hai posters outside cinema halls in Rajasthan on Friday.

The community is aggrieved over the alleged use of pejorative language by Salman and Shilpa Shetty during promotions of Tiger Zinda Hai. Police arrested around 40 protesters due to vandalisation of property. The Tubelight actor had used the word ‘bhangi’ during the promotion of Tiger Zinda Hai, when referring to his dancing skills while Shilpa had reportedly used the word to describe how she looks at home.

“A few days ago, Salman Khan in an interview used ‘bhangi’. Constitutionally also, using this word is an abuse; it has hurt the sentiments of Valmiki community,” a social worker was reported as saying.

Protestors demand that screenings of the movie be halted until they receive an apology from the Bollywood stars. Reportedly, security has been tightened for Salman and Shilpa.
