Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton will be visiting Pakistan in the second half of the year, as announced by Kensington Palace.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be visiting Pakistan later this year in what will be the first royal visit to the country in more than a decade – it’s been 13 years since the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, Charles and Camilla visited Pakistan in 2006.

The visit has been requested by the Britain’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and many are looking at it as a gesture of strengthening ties.

Pakistan’s envoy to Britain, Mohammad Nafees Zakaria took to twitter to express his gratitude for the visit and extended a warm welcome to the royals. “Government & the people of Pakistan warmly welcome the announcement of the Royal visit by TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Pakistan this year,” he tweeted.

Although security concerns remain on the top of the checklist, it is expected that the concerns will be dealt with head on, in light of the majorly positive relations between the two countries; Britain is home largest Pakistani diaspora in Europe, housing more than a million people from Pakistan.
