Priyanka Chopra may have made it big in Hollywood, but the harsh reality of racism still haunts her, it seems.

According to InStyle Magazine, which conducted an interview with the Bollywood star, the actress said she missed out on a role in a film last year due to her skin colour.

“It affected me,” the 35-year-old was reported to have said. They “called one of my agents and said, ‘She’s the wrong — what word did they use? “Physicality.”

Priyanka, who’s the star of ABC’s terrorism thriller Quantico initially didn’t understand the implication.

“So in my defense as an actor, I’m like, ‘Do I need to be skinnier? Do I need to get in shape? Do I need to have abs?’ Like, what does ‘wrong physicality’ mean?”

Eventually, the Baywatch star told the magazine, her agent explained to her the ugly truth of the situation.

“My agent broke it down for me. Like, ‘I think, Priy, they meant that they wanted someone who’s not brown,” said Priyanka.
