A new show setup, a strong designer lineup, and a whole new international level formula came together to form an exciting buzz on day one of PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week. The red carpet, which is really not red anymore, was rolled out, and the night started off with the unveiling of the Sunsilk fashion edition bottles for the season, followed by the shows. A heady mix of fashion, glamour, beauty and style…this was show time!

HSY – Paranoia

The evening opened with HSY bringing us Paranoia, his play on the life and times of the young technology-driven generation of today and how they are in a constant state of paranoia, of forever being watched. Breezy silhouettes, a pop of neon colour here and there, and of course quintessential HSY menswear was what stood out for us. The collection may not have fully portrayed the paranoia factor, but with the colour combinations, chic silhouettes and glitzy details, it was definitely wearable and we can see it being a retail hit in the high-street market; who knows, fans may even buy that t-shirt with Hassan’s face on it!

Misha Lakhani – Caravan

Misha brought her signature aesthetic to the runway, with minimal use of print and embroidery, the collection incorporated cropped breezy culottes and kurta cuts, which were very pleasing to the eye. The sustainably produced collection incorporated light, bright and relaxed hand-woven separates, which is what summer should be all about! We may have seen one organza wrap too many, but Caravan was a fuss free, sleek and sophisticated collection.

Saira Shakira- Jiē

Athleisure has been on the rise in the fashion world and this was the duo’s take on it. The structured tops and drapes were perhaps a little too reminiscent of a fashion thesis collection, but the cropped pants with a glitzy touch paired with funky sneakers are what looked like a hit.

Generation – Bring Basant Back

Edgy, innovative and making a strong political and fashion statement – for us this was the most anticipated collection of the night and it met all expectations. Complete with over sized silver kite shaped earrings and nomadic footwear, this silent protest will be remembered for years to come.

Speaking to Khadija Rehman before the show, we asked her what she expects from the retail value of her collection, “If you can wear something and go about your daily life, that is beautiful, for me functionality is a very important part of design. I can’t design something that can’t be worn,” she mused. Generation has being playing with the edgy vibe since a while now, and while each piece may not appeal to every individual, they always do variations of the same design and print, which is what makes the brand a hit.

Sania Maskatiya – Sania Studio

Sania Maskatiya’s western wear debut was another collection we predict to resonate well in the market. With its easy floral patterns in perfect summery hues, the collection was breezy and minimal and each piece can be worn easily for the season. As Sania earlier told us, it was evident that the collection was designed keeping the Pakistani market in mind, with nothing too drastic or unpractical. This is what fashion week should be about: practical clothing that offers something in terms of innovation and newness.
