To give credit where it is due, the Q Mobile Hum Showcase has delivered on its promise of celebrating the very best of fashion by bringing together masters like Bunto Kazmi, Faiza Samee and Rizwan Beyg and fairly newer but popular designers like Adnan Pardesy and HSY. These highly acclaimed artists dazzled the audience with their high octane creativity and stunning fashion statements on day two of the event.

The unusual and also unfortunate low was the red carpet, which was fairly empty despite having such big names on the lineup. You could blame it on fashion exhaustion but it makes us wonder whether it things would have been the same in any other city. Lahore would most definitely have stepped out in full glory merely out of respect for these masters and their craft.

Regardless of public reaction, there’s no denying that such a strong lineup is a victory in itself, one that many established platforms have yet failed to accomplish. Here is our recap of the day:

Bunto Kazmi

The house of Kazmi has been coming out with exceptional ensembles for almost five decades, and not just the fashion elite but everyone young, old, trendy and classic appreciates its aesthetics unanimously. Bunto Kazmi’s clothes were true to her finesse and talent, but what was truly beautiful is how she translated her iconic mastery even in modern silhouettes. There was a standing ovation in order for her for her sheer excellence.

Rizwan Beyg

Rizwan Beyg showcased his collection Lace Couture with nothing less than interesting silhouettes and a range of 3D appliques and floral motifs, which were breathtaking. Most of Beyg’s Lace Couture took us back to Milan or even the 90s as white lace is a signature with the maestro. However, this was a fresh take on the craft and it certainly did bring craft back to the catwalk, as he intended to. Now that he is back in the picture, we can hope to see more of his clothes in retail.

Faiza Samee

In keeping up with 36 years of this fashion house’s artisanal nucleus, the handcrafted pieces and motifs made us appreciate her techniques, and embroideries. Although there were some misses but the pieces that reflected Faiza’s true passion and style stood out to ensure her success on the runway.

Adnan Pardesy

Adnan Pardesy showcased his collection Entwined and what we found to be truly beautiful was the use of gota with highest of precision. Adnan Pardesy always scores on point when he lets his techniques speak without letting silhouettes and shapes interrupt him and according to us. It was not easy confronting such a legendary lineup but Adnan definitely stood out on his own.

HSY

HSY showcased Love Letters, an homage to lovers and the beauty of love to bring together people without any pretence. It was truly a beautiful collection that was breath taking and inspiring; undoubtedly one of HSY’s best. The brand adapted the technique of artist Cathryn Kemp (also just recently used by Prabal Gurang SS17) and we just really wished HSY had tried a bit harder to bring his own take on the pieces. The typeface, calligraphy, script and perhaps even palette could have been modified.
