After garnering massive success in India and Pakistan, the Filmfare-winning Saba Qamar and Irrfan Khan starrer Hindi Medium is all set to release in China next month.

Marking Saba and Irrfan’s debut in East Asia, the film is scheduled to release on April 4, following the success of movies by Bollywood stars Aamir Khan and Salman Khan in the country.

Reportedly, China has a quota on the number of overseas movies that can be screened in the country each year, and Indian films are finding increased presence due to their overall popularity amongst Chinese audiences.

Exploring the idea of economic and social disparity in India, Hindi Medium looked at the internal workings of living with an elitist mindset in a third world country.

“This is exactly what made Hindi Medium so significant,” producer Dinesh Vijan told the Indian media. “The idea that we give importance to material wealth and our social image over the value of humanness and love baffles me, but sadly it’s what drives most of society and portraying this in a light yet meaningful form is what resonates with audiences universally.”

Previously, Aamir’s Secret Superstar and Salman’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan have managed to cross the INR 100 Crore mark in China with ease – hinting towards a successful market for Bollywood. Now, one has to see how the Saba Qamar starrer fares in the country.
