News of the Day: Not that we were expecting anything less from Saba Qamar, who has proven her acting mettle since her Hum Sab Umeed Se Hain days, but the star is getting incredible reviews for her performance in the Bollywood flick Hindi Medium. The film is about a couple, played by Irrfan Khan and Saba, who will go to any lengths to get their school admitted into a posh school. Class division is discussed in great detail as well as our inferiority complex concerning the English language.

BTW, we’re talking about film reviews in Indian publications, not just local ones! While one would have been fearful of bias in Indian publications towards Pakistani artists, thankfully that has not been the case for Saba. Here’s what some of the big publications have said about her performance opposite Irrfan Khan: Times of India said that, “Saba, as the OTT, dominating wife is sheer delight onscreen.” Pinkvilla was equally appreciative of Saba: “Whoever found Saba Qamar, take a bow! It’s rather unfortunate that due to political myopia, we won’t get to see enough of her in our movies.” Our sentiments exactly!

Bollywood Life put into words what we have all been feeling: “Saba Qamar surprises you with a very effective performance, acting as a perfect foil to Irrfan’s act. I was disappointed with what Raees did with Mahira’s role, but Saba gets a very meaty part with a nice arc and she does complete justice to it.”

“Saba Qamar is equally effective and funny as a wife who keeps saying ‘stand ho jao’ and ‘lonely and depressed’,” is how Hindustan Times has described Saba’s performance.

The film has generally gotten great reviews and now that we have watched Hindi Medium too, you can expect our haute review over the weekend!
