Amidst a controversial time for stars and influencers around the world, Time Magazine has released its annual 100 Most Influential list, naming this year’s global icons, including Kumail Nanjiani and Sadiq Khan.

Naming the two icons of Pakistani descent, Time’ has asked other celebrities to pen the profiles of those who have been mentioned in the list. In the case of Kumail, his profile has been written by Judd Apatow. “Kumail is a new comedic voice that we need,” he wrote. “He reminds people how fundamental a misunderstanding it is that a community of almost 2 billion people is to be feared. We’re lucky to have Kumail. We need a thousand more,”

In the case of Sadiq Khan – the first Muslim mayor of London, he has been called “a rising star who has a bright political future” by former New York mayor, Michael Bloomberg. He also hinted at the possibility of Sadiq Khan going on to becoming prime minister.

Apart from the two, names such as Deepika Padukone, Virat Kohli, Saudi Crown-Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, Donald Trump, amongst others have been added to the list.
