Sajal Aly is an actor par excellence and her work on both sides of the border is proof. Not only has her craft won appreciation in Pakistan but India too has become a fan. Remember her Bollywood debut Mom? It truly takes a very powerful performance to be in the same frame as the legendary late Sridevi and hold your own.

Time and again the star has established that she has the potential to breathe life in every character that she plays. But how does she pick and choose these characters?

“For the past couple of years, I have been stressing more about me being relatable to the characters I play on screen,” revealed Sajal, sharing her secret exclusively with Something Haute. “As an independent individual I have a certain set of principles that I follow in my life, taught to me by my beloved mother and the environment we live in; I tend to look for those principles in a script.”

Sajal was nominated for Best Actress (O Rangreza and Yakeen Ka Safar), twice in the same category at the Lux Style Awards 2018. Her upcoming period play, Aangan is one of the most anticipated dramas of the year, and when the news of her signing Alif broke, fans just couldn’t stop celebrating the announcement.

We also asked Sajal what made her sign the drama.

Alif is a beautiful script with a lot of lessons, motivations, experiences all jotted down magically by Umera Ahmed. When our captain ‘Haseeb Hassan’ explained me my character, I had a déjà vu and it brought back all the nostalgic memories of us working in Nannhi and boy that was an experience I would love to have again, so saying yes became very easy.”

Sharing her excitement and expectations regarding the project she added that she hopes her hard work gains acceptance once again. “I am looking forward to a great learning curve yet again on my part as a curious actress and I wish my friends and fans acknowledge the efforts I shall put in.”

Penned by Umera Ahmed and directed by Haseeb Hasan, Alif is being produced by Samina Humayun Saeed and Sana Shahnawaz’s production house Next Level Entertainment. The drama also marks Hamza Ali Abbasi’s return to television after Mann Mayal.

Alif is scheduled to go on air in September this year.
