One of Pakistan’s leading fashion design houses, Sania Maskatiya is all set to present its western wear line titled Sania Studio’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection at this season’s New York Fashion Week (NYFW) showcase. That’s a first for any Pakistani designer and definitely a wow moment for Pakistan’s fashion industry.

The show is scheduled to be part of a segment under The Council of Aspiring American Fashion Designers (CAAFD), which handpicks designers to showcase their brilliance on such a platform and broaden their business and branding to the USA. Fortunately, Sania Studio has been among the lucky ones to be chosen by CAAFD in collaboration with iFashion Network to display their collection this year.

CAAFD is known for its rigorous selection process and it is a huge milestone for the Pakistani fashion industry to have a local (Pakistani) designer feature their work on one of the most prestigious international fashion weeks in the world. Undoubtedly, Sania Maskatiya has become Pakistan’s most lauded and revered designers to get global acclaim in such a short span of time.

First look at Sania’s NYFW collection

Sania Studio, Sania’s western line that debuted at the PFDC fashion week last year, is a combination of what Sania does best: fusion. It’s a combination of her love of print and her skill of creating shapes and silhouettes, which will stand out as unique at fashion week.

The designer was on a plane to New York when we tried to contact her; it’s been a busy time for her as her brother and CEO Sania Maskatiya, Umair Tabani was getting married this week. Sania left for the show immediately after Umair’s Valima and her impossibly busy schedule was one reason why she was unable to show at the PFDC L’Oreal Bridal Week 2018  in Lahore.

The collection, Sania Studio Spring/Summer 2019, is an eclectic mix of print and embroidery, which is Pakistan’s strength on silhouettes that work anywhere in the world. The colour palette for 2019 is cream, mint, pink and black with motifs inspired by Egypt. Watch this space for updates from the show.
