Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt says he feels an emotional connection with his upcoming film Kalank as his character shares certain similarities with his father, Sunil Dutt.

The film – which is set during the time of pre-partition – features Sanjay as a man named Balraj, which coincidently was also his father’s real name.

“It is a coincidence that my character is named Balraj, which is my father’s [Sunil Dutt] real name. He too came from Pakistan during Partition, so it has an emotional connect,” he said during an interview with an Indian publication.

Sanjay also shared that Kalank was mentioned to him by producer Karan Johar’s late father Yash Johar back in 1993. “During the shoot of Gumrah, Yash uncle had briefly mentioned about the story. Dharma Productions is like family; so when Karan approached me with the film, I had to do it,” he said.

Karan Johar’s period drama Kalank is set to hit the screens on April 17. The film is a multi-starrer featuring Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in key roles.
