Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju, featuring Ranbir Kapoor in the unbelievably well performed titular role, has released with the highest opening weekend of 2018 in India. Box office collections in India have been recorded at ₹ 120.06 crore, according to Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh and it promises to pick up even further.

Sanju is doing well commercially and critically, which is a relief for Ranbir Kapoor, an extremely talented actor whose last few films including Besharam and Jagga Jasoos had tanked miserably at the box office.

While box office figures are almost impossible to determine in Pakistan (distributors rarely share numbers and the local film trade and business hasn’t been monumental enough for any official declarations) it has been shared that the two Bollywood releases – Race 3 and Sanju have made up for poor Eid collections. Four local films – 7 Din Mohabbat In, Azaadi, Wajood and Na Band Na Baraati – released this Eid, for which Bollywood releases were pushed back by a week. According to exhibitors, cinemas did not get the audiences they were hoping for.

Sanju, however, has managed to rake in a whopping PKR 9.5 crores in the opening weekend alone, according to unofficial figures. Cinemas ran at over 90% occupancy and extra show had to be added to meet the high demand of tickets.

This just goes to prove that good content will get the numbers, no matter what time it is released.
