Shamoon Abbasi has been making waves these days for all the right reasons. The actor-cum-director has confirmed to us that he is in fact en route to the 72nd Festival de Cannes.
Shamoon took to Instagram and posted a picture of his invitation to Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, which is the Directors’ Fortnight, an independent section held in parallel to the Cannes Film Festival. The program showcases shorts, feature films and documentaries.
In an exclusive conversation with Something Haute, Shamoon shared he will be representing Durj at the fest.
“I am a member of the French Film Guild Association — Société des réalisateurs de films (SRF) — and have been invited to attend the opening ceremony and the festival at Cannes, and represent Durj there,” he said.
Durj is based on true events revolving around the dark subject of cannibalism. Shamoon’s co-star in Durj, Sherry Shah, also shared her excitement about the news on Instagram.

The fact that Durj has become a part of Cannes Film Festival is a honour for me, and its terrific and proud moment for all the Cast and Crew. Shamoon Abbasi’s unmatched hard-work, dedication and faith in our team’s effort and in #TeamDurj itself has paid off and it’s overwhelming. The sensational experience of receiving praises and acknowledgement from all over the world is just indescribable – we are all speechless. I really want to deeply thank everyone who’s been supporting us from the start; this is all truly beyond words.
