Adding another feather to her cap, Oscar-winning filmmaker, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has been awarded an honorary degree by the renowned liberal arts institution, Smith College for her projects and philanthropy.

The institution took to Twitter to announce that the Pakistani activist will be one in the list of many iconic women who will be the recipient of the coveted honorary degree. Some of the names on the list of recipients include two-time US Poet Laureate, Rita Dove and Scholar, activist and Black feminist theorist Kimberlé Crenshaw, amongst others.

Smith College is private, independent women’s liberal arts college and is renowned for its liberal arts programmes. It is also the largest member of the ‘Seven Sisters’ – the historical women colleges of the US.
