Legendary Bollywood actor Shashi Kapoor passed away in Mumbai today, Monday 4th December, at the age of 79.

The actor during his extensive career, worked in over 175 films and was awarded several accolades for his contribution to Bollywood, including the Padma Bhusan in 2011, and the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 2015 – one of the highest awards in Indian cinema.

The Deewaar actor, born as Balbir Raj Kapoor on March 18 1938, produced several hit films such as Junoon, Kalyug and Utsav. He also directed Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Ajooba, as well as a Russian movie, Vozvrashcheniye Bagdadskogo Vora in 1988.

Shashi, who was ill for the last several years, had been admitted to Kokilaben Hospital on Sunday night, due to a chest infection, where he breathed his last at 5:20pm on Monday.

Karan Johar took to social media to call Shashi “The most charming and enigmatic actor ever.”

 

 

Producer Mahesh Bhatt thanked Shashi for touching lives.
