In order to commemorate the International Climate Change Day on 24th October, acclaimed documentary filmmaker, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s film house, SOC Films, launched Pakistan’s first animated film series in Urdu addressing the worldwide phenomenon of climate change and global warming. The purpose of the animated films is to create a sense of responsibility in the youth as well as the adults in Pakistan.

With an aim to create socially motivated content, SOC Films has continually documented groundbreaking realities of Pakistan. Adding to their long list of achievements, the film house has released the first film of the series - The Flood – a story of a young fisherman Saif and his struggles as global warming affects his life, gradually but dramatically.

The first film is about the rising sea levels with an idea to promote an environmental-friendly attitude and educate the masses of Pakistan in order to bring a collective change. As part of the awareness campaign, four animated films will be released, with a duration of 2 to 3 minutes.

According to World Wide Fund for Nature [WWF], 16 of the 17 warmest years have already been recorded since 2001, with 2016 being the warmest year to date. It is a great initiative as it plans to not only highlight the environmental change in Karachi, but will also focus on biodiversity awareness, the science behind global warming and what can we do to fix it.
