Veere Di Wedding actor Swara Bhasker stirred up quite a storm after she called Pakistan a failing state following which she was trolled mercilessly by Pakistanis. But it’s not just Pakistanis who are irked by her. The Indian audience hasn’t been kind to her either because of a scene in the movie which shows Swara’s character masturbating.

It’s no surprise then that her co-actor Sonam Kapoor came to her rescue. “I think people just like to troll her because she has an opinion and a point of view and I guess that shows how much they love her because the other side of hate is always love, so Swara you have a lot of lovers!” she told the Indian press.

Sonam’s words didn’t go down well with her Pakistani fans who assumed she made light of Swara’s comment of calling Pakistan a failing state. However, Sonam has now clarified that her words of support for Swara were only in response to the Indian trolls who have an issue with the masturbation scene in the movie.

“My defence of her has nothing to do with her comments on Pakistan! Get your fact right and stop trying to spread mischief and hate! #aproudworldcitizen #feminist #liberal,” Sonam tweeted.

Earlier, in an interview with film critic Rajeev Masand, Swara was asked to comment about the ban on the movie in Pakistan, to which she responded rather unceremoniously. “I don’t know why people think I’m a spokesperson for the Pakistani government,” she had said. “What do you expect from a state that’s run by Sharia laws?” She later on added that Pakistan is a “failing state” and India should stop making it a point of discussion.
