Shah Rukh Khan received an award for his efforts and contribution towards women’s and children’s rights in India, at a celebrity gala held ahead of the official start of the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

Shah Rukh expressed his gratitude saying, “Extremely charged that I’ve had this amazing opportunity, this award, being recognised like this for minuscule work that I did, I’d like to do it with even more fervour. What is even more pleasant is that India is here in full power.”

“From them I have learned how courage can catalyse victimhood into heroism,” he told the audience of international business leaders and officials. “We, the powerful, need to get out of the way, to pick the barriers apart, the ones that give us names and races and colours and hierarchies. That is what I have learned from my beautifully scarred women,” he added, referring to the acid victims his foundation works to support.

“I want to thank my sister, my wife and my little daughter for bringing me up well and teaching me the value of requesting, sometimes imploring and begging a yes from a woman, instead of forcing it upon her.” SRK stated.

Australian actor Cate Blanchett also received an award for her work with refugees and British singer Sir Elton John for his campaigning on HIV/AIDS.
