The campaign was shot in Venice and the launch of Zainab Chottani’s luxury lawn in Karachi was just as starry and romantic. Held at her studio yesterday, the set up was pretty and floral and interspersed with gondolas; refreshments were served by makeshift gondoliers. As always, Zainab’s family was there to support her; her sister Tooba (who participated in the Bank Alfalah Rising Talent Show at FPW last month) has graduated and is now working with her.

Zainab has taken a very brave step this year as after previously collaborating with various textile mills, she has gone solo this year. She has designed an exclusive lawn collection of 8 prints in two colour ways each and she has printed the lawn herself as opposed to lending her brand name to a mill.

“It’s difficult to experiment with lawn prints as they have to appeal to a mass clientele,” Zainab said at the launch. “We have tried to add some artistic elements like scribbles etc. The lawn comes with so many fun elements like motifs, embroidered panels, organza panels etc that putting it together will be fun.”

Zainab added and specified that her lawn was a luxury product and was ideally designed for occasions, which will abound in summer. We can predict that the very hot Ramzan that is around the corner and will see women decked up at iftaar parties.

This year’s brand ambassador, Amna Ilyas was not seen at the lawn launch but there were enough pretty and famous faces to keep things exciting. One saw Momal Sheikh walking out as we walked in. Hania Aamir, the very pretty and petite 20-year old upcoming star was also present. She’s working with Hamza Ali Abbasi in Parwaz Hai Junoon and had a couple of stories to share. One also bumped into the lovely Hareem Farooq, who wore the summer look very well. Other than the movie stars, Amazonian super models Nadia Hussein and Ruby Chaudhry were also at the launch, wearing the lawn in a unique way. They had turned their silk dupattas into toga like tunics.

All in all, this was a successful and happening launch, that fared well with summer’s favourite fabric. Don’t forget to check out all the 8 designs and book your favourites!
