The Magnum Party 2015

Imagine if Willy Wonka and Karl Lagarfeld met each other and decided to create a museum exhibiting their passion, chocolate and fashion, what would they come up with? There would be walls flowing with chocolate and an art installation paying tribute to rich Belgium chocolate. A gold chandelier would gently twirl from the ceiling and the entire room would be splashed with ornate gold furnishings. An international DJ would be flown in, who'd play the latest Calvin Harris chart toppers and the Crème de la crème of the fashion fraternity would let their hair down to get ready for one heck of a party.     That's sort of what happened this weekend at the Magnum Party. Rich Belgium chocolate was made...

Maheen Karim’s Magnum Experience

Maheen Karim, who's up as a nominee for Best Luxury Pret at the Lux Style Awards this year, is also one of 5 designers creating Magnum inspired fashion for the Magnum Party 2015.   Magnum gets many people excited, but for Maheen Karim, the excitement rose for a different reason. "I was very excited of course when I was first approached to be a part of the Magnum Party, as you can imagine. It's obviously a chance to do something different, and I feel honoured, considering the other fantastic designers who have been approached by Magnum."   Maheen's signature style is Western wear, which she reckons is one of the major reasons why Magnum chose her to design a  unique collection for the event....

‘Unproductive’ product placements we could have done without

We love this energetic new wave that Pakistani cinema is riding on these days. This is a wave that has boarded all sorts of diverse subjects, from boxers to bankers, rickshaw-walas to corrupt railway officials and cricketers to con-girls. It’s diverse, it’s promising and though it may still be miles away from its destination, it is getting there slow and steady. In a nutshell, we love films. What we don’t love, however, is the inclusion of unwanted ads in the midst of these films. You thought that ad-breaks were only going to haunt you amidst your favourite TV shows, right? Wrong! One thing regrettable in this new age of cinema is product placement, which is actually as strong as any...

Brands you want to see at fashion week

Birds of feather flock together. It's very simple; as a professional you collaborate with like-minded people. I'm not talking about 'working with like-minds' because not everyone's as lucky to land the perfect job BUT when you're looking to create co-brands or find sponsors, then you choose intelligently. Especially when your business is fashion and appearances, establishing the right oomph and creating the right mood is as important as it is to have candles on a birthday cake. Two things are important to fashion: style and good design, which is why Mercedes Benz makes such a cool sponsor for so many fashion weeks across the world: New York, Berlin, Beijing, Paris, Milan, Tokyo, Australia etc. Fashion weeks and hot cars are like apples and...

How the Sunsilk Survival Kit helped

PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week is over, done and dusted and we have fashion week related stories coming out of our ears by now. But before we move on to other mundane things in life, I want to take a minute and express how much we appreciated the Sunsilk Survival kit, how it helped get through 7 long and tedious hours at the venue and how we can hope and expect it to get slightly even better next time. The Sunsilk Survival Kit included: 1. One notepad and a ball point pen: Essential for the frowers, this was useful and should be put in even next time, until and unless Sunsilk is willing to upgrade to iPad minis. Check. 2. Hair-brush: While no image-fearing fashionista would...
