Day 2 at FPW15 has highs and lows

Day 2 at Fashion Pakistan Week Winter/Festive 15 was expected to be most exciting. It boasted an interesting mix of designers: Wardha Saleem, Maheen Karim, Elan, Nida Azwer, FnkAsia and Deepak Perwani. There was Obaid Shaikh too but people conveniently tried to overlook that one show. Unfortunately not all the big names managed to deliver. Other than three impressive collections, it was live singing by Zeb Bangash (for Wardha Saleem) and Zoe Viccaji (for Deepak Perwani) that was the highlight of the day.   By Aamna Haider Isani   Here’s a look at 3 of the day’s strong collections:   Designer: Khadijah Shah for Elan Collection: Sauvage Elan's wild trip   This vibrant display of jungle life had me at snakes; they were coiled in the...

The Magnum Party 2015

Imagine if Willy Wonka and Karl Lagarfeld met each other and decided to create a museum exhibiting their passion, chocolate and fashion, what would they come up with? There would be walls flowing with chocolate and an art installation paying tribute to rich Belgium chocolate. A gold chandelier would gently twirl from the ceiling and the entire room would be splashed with ornate gold furnishings. An international DJ would be flown in, who'd play the latest Calvin Harris chart toppers and the Crème de la crème of the fashion fraternity would let their hair down to get ready for one heck of a party.     That's sort of what happened this weekend at the Magnum Party. Rich Belgium chocolate was made...

Maheen Karim’s Magnum Experience

Maheen Karim, who's up as a nominee for Best Luxury Pret at the Lux Style Awards this year, is also one of 5 designers creating Magnum inspired fashion for the Magnum Party 2015.   Magnum gets many people excited, but for Maheen Karim, the excitement rose for a different reason. "I was very excited of course when I was first approached to be a part of the Magnum Party, as you can imagine. It's obviously a chance to do something different, and I feel honoured, considering the other fantastic designers who have been approached by Magnum."   Maheen's signature style is Western wear, which she reckons is one of the major reasons why Magnum chose her to design a  unique collection for the event....

Day 2 at Fashion Pakistan Week S/S 2014

A stronger day than the first, Day two at the Fashion Pakistan Week S/S 2014 presented some serious style, whether it was the high street trendsetting brand Gulabo, the elegant and now available Tughra line by Shamaeel, the trends show by Maybelline which featured diverse capsules from Sania Maskatiya, Sublime and Sanam Chaudhri or the Toni & Guy #HairMeetWardrobe show, which offered high glamour by Maheen Karim. Jafferjees took a very New York leap in revealing a smart, modern Summer line and Nauman Arfeen has (over the last two collections) emerged as a very impressive menswear designer. Sheep may have been the weaker link of the day but it showed potential to grow, perhaps the brand just needs to shepherd...

The Fashion Pakistan council makes another comeback, yet again.

If you've ever been up North, even to Muree, you'll have noticed age-worn pick-ups and wagons wheezing their way up the hilly, windy roads. They speed through and then roll backwards when their momentum dips, letting out gusts of smoky diesel every now and then. They offload passengers and crawl up inclines, unable to handle the weight. Well, no offence, but Fashion Pakistan - as a council - reminds me of these rickety modes of transportation, the obsession with truck art replete. Mind you, they almost always do make it to their destination successfully, but if you're onboard (as I have been once in Swat), your journey is bound to be frustrating. (L-R) Nauman Arfeen, Mahin Hussein,...
