LSA 2015: The Awards

Na Maloom Afraad predictably dominated the Film category with the only non NMA award going to Saleha Aref for her role in Dukhtar. The music category was a mixed bag, with popular acts picking up the trophy.     Cheeky! Hamza Ali Abbasi, who openly opposes the objectification of women, was asked to present the prize for Best Model (female). Surely that merits a status update!   It was reassuring to see two female vocalists – Zoe Viccaji and Sara Haider – on the list of winners. Fashion delivered very ‘Karachi-centric’ results with all trophies staying in the city. Brand Sana Safinaz emerged biggest winners as they picked up three trophies, and Nabila won her 9th LSA for Hair and Makeup....

Syed Noor ‘movies’ in a new direction

The veteran director talks about Bhai Wanted, the new age of cinema and why Shaan is still the country’s biggest star.    Syed Noor's vital statistics are interesting. He’s been in the movie business for 44 years. Since 1998 he has directed and released around 30 films, half with Shaan as the main lead and only three without Saima. He is back in the director’s seat this year, recently signing up Shaan Shahid for Bhai Wanted, their first notable film together since the Punjabi film Sharika was released in 2012.
