In South Asian countries such as India and Pakistan where women are displayed as selfless individuals who are only born to sacrifice their lives for those around them, it’s great to see HUM TV create content that shows that women have needs, just like men. The fact that Hadiqa Kiani, an older woman is paired opposite a much younger co-actor, Bilal Abbas Khan in upcoming drama Dobara is enough to win our attention.

After much wait and anticipation, two teasers have been released so far introducing us to the lead characters.  Hadiqa plays the character of a widow (Mehru) who falls in love again, despite having a son (Usama Khan) the same age as the guy (Mahir) she’s interested in.

Film and television are a great way to break these set ideals that are put on women so it is great to see content creators break the mold and display female characters that break gender stereotypes. There is absolutely no reason for a woman to stay tied to the memories of her dead husband; she can want to move forward and experience a better life without facing societal pressure.

In the teasers released Mehru reflects on who she needs to worry about the most when it comes to making her life decisions: from the people around her, from society, or from her own children? More importantly, she wonders if she even needs to worry about them in the first place.

“When destiny gives her another chance to be youthful again she takes a leap of faith, but at what cost?” states the official description.

The teasers show that she will face resentment from her son among other characters in her life. The story mostly features the relationship between Hadiqa, Bilal and Usama’s characters.

Hadiqa Kiani made her acting debut with Raqeeb Se and proved herself to be an extremely multi-talented and intelligent artist. Out of all the scripts that she could have signed, we believe that there couldn’t have been a better drama than Raqeeb Se to enter the drama industry.

While many actors claim that there isn’t a choice when it comes to scripts, she went on to sign yet another out of the box drama, that looks like an interesting watch already. Bilal too is a fine actor who has proven he’s here to stay by giving superhit performances in back to back projects. Considering they are both extremely powerful actors, we look forward to nothing less than magic!

The drama is written by renowned playwright Sarwat Nazeer, who has written hit projects like Qayamat. The cast also includes veteran actress and director, Sakina Samo.

Dobara is directed by Danish Nawaz and produced by Momina Duraid.
