The film industry keeps telling us journalists and bloggers to give them some time because they are still learning, but when you see the trailer of the film Teri Meri Love Story you can’t help but ask the question: Is Bollywood their teacher? Not that there’s anything wrong with being influenced or inspired by another form of cinema, but can’t we try to learn from someone better?

TMLS is a comedy/action flick revolving around three characters, where the girl wants to marry her boyfriend but her father is making her marry someone else. But this story is not made clear in the trailer; perhaps the filmmakers decided to leave some mystery, since the story is hardly anything original. Which brings us to this very important point: why are our films losing originality? Let’s take a look at what Pakistani movies have started to look like now: An ‘item’ number, movie titles such as Teri Meri Love Story, a love story that is actually an action flick (Bollywood LOVES their action stunts in the middle of a ‘love’ story) cheap dialogues, music that is also heavily inspired by Bollywood – basically we are now turning into a B-grade version of Bollywood.

I don’t even want to comment on how shoddy the whole production looks (okay, I do want to talk about that as well) but if it weren’t for some recognizable faces, like Mohib Mirza or Mohsin Abbas Haider, I wouldn’t have known that I’m looking at a Pakistani production. Also, it’s not just the fact that we are copying Bollywood, it’s that we are now becoming a cheap imitation of Bollywood.

Please watch the trailer yourself and decide if I’m overreacting:
