Pakistan’s first superhero film is nearly here and we’re super-excited! FINALLY Pakistanis get a much needed break from rom-coms, Bollywood-esque films and war sagas. Project Ghazi, while slightly touching the war narrative, is our first experiment in the superhero genre. The film stars Humayun Saeed, Sheheryar Munawer and Syra Shehroz in lead roles. Truth be told, we’re also a little nervous because it won’t be easy for the film makers to win over an audience that is used to Hollywood’s super-heroics. Even India has not managed to nail this genre yet.

Anyway, optimistically speaking, the teaser for the film has been released and it seems like the producers wanted to start off the promotions by introducing the villain first, which is unusual but still, we’re intrigued. We see Adnan Jaffer in the clip. Well, we don’t actually see him because he’s wearing a mask. Then we are briefly introduced to Humayun and Sheheryar, who appear to be soldiers or fighters, and Syra who is a scientist.

Our first reaction to seeing the antagonist is that he looks and sounds a lot like Bane, the iconic villain from Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, played by the very brilliant Tom Hardy. Regardless, it doesn’t change the fact that Adnan looks and sounds creepy, although we do wish that his voice had been edited a little to make it sound different than what he usually sounds like. But then his character would have been a complete imitation of Bane, at least in the teaser.

Still, we’re curious to see what transpires of this. For those of you who haven’t seen the teaser yet, watch it below and let us know what you think!
