According to a report in BBC, Collins has revealed that the novel will focus on the years after the Dark Days, referring to a failed rebellion in the city of Panem. “It will explore the state of nature as Panem attempts to rebuild,” Collins said.

She also gave an insight for the characters, adding that they would look at “who we are, and what we perceive is required for our survival.”

Film producers — Lionsgate — were also quick to issue a statement in regards to the news; “As the proud home of The Hunger Games movies, we can hardly wait for Suzanne’s next book to be published,” said Joe Drake, chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.

The Hunger Games trilogy and the accompanying movies garnered a huge fan following at a time when the dystopian genre made a banging comeback. The story, set in the post-apocalyptic Panem, follows the life of Katniss Everdeen as she is forced to participate in a morbid game of survival. The books sold more than 100 million copies and have been translated into more than 50 languages.

The currently untitled book will be published on May 19, 2020.
