Hamza Ali Abbasi has a lot to say about issues that he’s passionate about, and those are many. But we were happy to see him being passionate about something other than politics when he Tweeted about watching the first rough footage of his upcoming film, Parwaaz Hai Junoon, saying that it looked good.

We couldn’t see the footage, obviously, but ended up talking about his love for planes, which is one reason why he enjoyed doing the film so much.

“I think I have a crush on JF 17 Thunder,” Hamza said about the lightweight combat aircraft developed jointly by the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation of China. He didn’t fly the JF 17 Thunder himself but he does know how to fly and is a member of the USFC (Ultralight and Sports Flying Club) Lahore as well as the Karachi Gliding Club.

“I can’t fly an Air Force jet, NO,” he said when we asked whether he had flown anything in the film. “But along with light sports aircraft, I can fly powered gliders too.”

“I wish more people were interested in flying,” Hamza added. “We need to promote USFC Lahore and the Karachi Gliding Club.”

And what else did he wish he could fly if he had the chance?

“A dragon! A flying dragon!” he laughed.

So, was it his love for planes that motivated him to sign up for Parwaaz Hai Junoon?

“Yes. My love for planes and Pakistan Air Force,” he said, mentioning two of his biggest passions.
