Promotions have started for the upcoming film, Kaaf Kangana, scheduled to release on October 25 and a media junket was organized with the cast and crew at a KFC branch in Karachi yesterday. The press meet was attended by the lead cast, including Sami Khan, Eshal Fayyaz, Ayesha Omer and Abi Khan. Veteran writer, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, who is making his directorial debut with the film, was also present to answer some complicated and hard hitting questions about the film.

Kaaf Kangana’s trailer released on June 9 to extremely mixed reviews. The trailer appeared to reveal a messy Indo-Pak love story where a Pakistani boy, Ali Mustafa (Sami) falls in love with an Indian girl, Kangana (Eshal) and the couple, expectedly, face socio-political hurdles and are up against all odds. More than the story, the trailer was criticised for over dramatic and exaggerated performances, which bordered on parody.

The cast, as expected, defended the film and urged viewers to not judge it before watching it.

“Even if you think you might not like the film, you should still go and watch it; your opinion might change,” said Sami Khan, who’s in the lead role. “It’s a Pakistani movie and people should support it whether it’s good or bad.”

Eshal Fayyaz, who is making her big screen debut with the film, seconded Sami’s statement.

“Don’t judge the entire film with the trailer, give it a chance and go watch the film. It’s an incredible film, with lots of great messages and has one of a kind music, which is not seen before in Pakistani films.”

Talking about whether the film revolves around the Kashmir issue, Ayesha Omer, who also has a pivotal role, stated, “This film is not about the Kashmir issue but yes, it touches the subject as it is a part of our dynamic with India.”

“This film is not a propaganda film, it’s pro-peace and I have not used a single expletive in the film,” veteran writer Khalil ur Rehman Qamar, who’s making his debut as director with Kaaf Kangana, went on to defend the film a bit more.

While the film is a love story, it will essentially be about Pakistan-India relations, thus playing on peoples’ sentiments, which is precisely why it may do well at the box office. We’ll just have to wait and see.
